Believing that military officers “Never Stop Serving”, the below listed five programs have been embraced by our Chapter as worthy causes.  While membership dues cover a portion of our support to these programs, we do rely not only on our members’ generosity but also that of the greater community in which we serve.

If you are so inclined, we welcome your support.  You may designate support for one or more of these programs or a general donation to the Chapter to be used where the need is greatest.  To do so, please scroll to the bottom of this section.

    We have 5 Beneficiaries:

    1. Hearts to Heroes

Hearts to Heroes is a local non-profit organization whose mission “is to provide care packages to the deployed military troops of the United States of America made possible by the donation of monies/items from those individuals/groups that support them.”

    2. Middle Georgia Honor Flight

The Middle Georgia Honor Flight program is relatively new to our area as the inaugural flight occurred in February 2018.  This program recognizes American veterans for their sacrifices and achievements by flying them to Washington, D.C. to see their memorials at no cost.

We encourage all to reach out to veterans within the Middle Georgia area to make them aware of this program.  To accomplish their mission, they rely on the time and effort of volunteers, sponsors and donors.

    3. Byron Elementary School

Our Chapter, through the Ladies Auxiliary, has been supporting the Byron Elementary School’s Cadet Leadership Program/Junior ROTC program.  It is the only elementary school in Georgia to have such a program.  Over the past several years, enrollment of 3rd to 5th graders has steadily increased to a current total of 94 students.

The color guard has been invited to perform at a number of local community activities.  They attended one of our recent chapter meetings and were very impressive as they posted the colors.  Their ROTC instructor gave a very compelling and informative presentation and stated how supportive the school administration was in getting this program off the ground.

    4. Houston County JROTC Summer Camp

Of the 22 JROTC programs supported by our Chapter in Middle Georgia, five of these programs are located within Houston County (Warner Robins area) and, over the past decade, these schools have combined to offer a one week summer camp creating a wonderful leadership experience for the cadets.  They attend educational programs and are exposed to leadership, discipline and traditional military values.

In June 2019, approximately 105 cadets attended this program where they were challenged both mentally and physically with exercises that require teamwork to successfully complete.  The end result is a group of cadets who have experienced the camaraderie and increased confidence that comes from their efforts.  The week is capped off with a pass in review parade.

Returning cadets are selected for leadership positions while the adult leadership provides overall guidance and direction to the week’s activities.  Led by a senior military officer along with a cadre of experienced NCOs and other support staff, they have developed an impressive program where the cadets are instilled with intangible traits that will enhance their lifelong successes.

Costs for the summer programs are significantly defrayed through corporate and other sponsors (to include the Middle Georgia chapter) in order to minimize the cost to the participating cadets.

    5. ROTC – JROTC Awards Program

The Middle Georgia Chapter annually supports 22 JROTC high school programs and one college ROTC program in the Middle Georgia area.  Chapter members attend the awards ceremonies in the April/May timeframe.

Honorees are outstanding students in the various Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine ROTC programs.  Feedback from these schools indicates that the cadets are appreciative of MOAA member presence to award their medal and certificate.
